Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about PARKING BRAKE:INDICATOR LIGHT filed October 28, 2007
NHTSA complaint #643863 (ODI reference 10207095) concerns a 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 and was filed on October 28, 2007. The owner reports the failure occurred on October 25, 2007. The vehicle had 103,012 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Florida based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as parking brake:indicator light, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 cohort independently describe similar parking brake:indicator light failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description
I HAVE A 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO AND MY ABS LIGHT AND PARKING BRAKE LIGHT HAS CAME ON RECENTLY. THE BRAKING ON MY TRUCK IS NOT VERY GOOD IN WET CONDITIONS. I FOUND THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON CHEVY TRUCKS, AND I WAS TOLD THAT I SHOULD JUST REMOVE THE FUSE. I WAS TOLD IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY, AND IT IS A COSTLY FIX. I THINK FOR ONCE CHEVROLET SHOULD STEP UP AND PUT OUT A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. THERE IS ALSO ANOTHER COMMON COMPLAINT ABOUT MY DASH CLUSTER, WHICH I HAD ALSO FOUND IS A COMMON PROBLEM, THE ODOMETER WILL GO OFF AND ON WHEN IT FEELS LIKE, AND THE GAS GAUGE FREQUENTLY GOES UP AND DOWN, AND THE FUEL LIGHT COMES ON PERIODICALLY. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. *TR
