Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about CHILD SEAT:HARNESS:STRAP/WEBBING filed September 29, 2007

NHTSA complaint #640527 (ODI reference 10204431) concerns a 2004 HONDA PILOT and was filed on September 29, 2007. The owner reports the failure occurred on September 14, 2007. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as child seat:harness:strap/webbing, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. No VIN was supplied by the filer, so this complaint contributes to model-year trend data but cannot be tied to a specific vehicle.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same HONDA PILOT cohort independently describe similar child seat:harness:strap/webbing failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

I BUCKLED MY 3 MONTH OLD SON INTO HIS BRITAX MARATHON CAR SEAT. I MADE A WIDE LEFT TURN AND ALL OF A SUDDEN HE STARTED TO SCREAM. I PULLED OVER AND PARKED MY CAR AND GOT OUT TO CHECK ON HIM. HE HAD SLID OUT FROM UNDER THE STRAP AND WAS LAYING PERPENDICULAR TO HIS SEAT. HE WAS UNINJURED, BUT WHEN I CALLED BRITAX TO TELL THEM, THEY WERE UNCONCERNED AND BLAMED ME. I KNOW HOW TO PUT HIM IN HIS CAR SEAT. I KNOW I TIGHTENED THE STRAPS, THEY SOMEHOW LOOSENED AND HE WAS ABLE TO SLIDE UNDER THEM. *JB
