NHTSA Complaint about ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:OTHER FUEL TYPES:TURBO/SUPERCHARGER filed July 31, 2007
NHTSA complaint #632624 (ODI reference 10198010) concerns a 2004 FORD F-250 SD and was filed on July 31, 2007. The owner reports the failure occurred on July 13, 2007. The vehicle had 60,084 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as engine and engine cooling:engine:other fuel types:turbo/supercharger, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD F-250 SD cohort independently describe similar engine and engine cooling:engine:other fuel types:turbo/supercharger failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2004 FORD F-250 SD shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
I HAVE OWNED THE TRUCK FOR APPROX. 9 MONTHS, (THIRD OWNER). WHILE TOWING MY TRAVEL TRAILER OR GOING UPHILL UNLOADED, THE TURBO WILL HOWL LOUDLY AND THE TRUCK WILL EXPERIENCE A SIGNIFICANT POWER LOSS (CANNOT MAINTAIN ADEQUATE SPEED ABOVE 45 MPH). ALSO I AVERAGE ONLY 9 MPG CITY AND 11.9 MPG HIGHWAY UNLOADED WEIGHT. I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO ANTELOPE VALLEY FORD AS WELL AS THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND GET THE SAME RESPONSE, "CANNOT DUPLICATE. IT SEEMS AS IF FORD HAS INSTRUCTED THEIR TECHNICIANS TO "CANNOT DUPLICATE" ALL COMPLAINTS IN AN EFFORT TO AVOID FIXING UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
