NHTSA Complaint about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DRUM:DRUM filed July 16, 2007

NHTSA complaint #630646 (ODI reference 10196458) concerns a 2005 PONTIAC G6 and was filed on July 16, 2007. The owner reports the failure occurred on July 15, 2006. The report was geocoded to Connecticut based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:drum:drum, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. No VIN was supplied by the filer, so this complaint contributes to model-year trend data but cannot be tied to a specific vehicle.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same PONTIAC G6 cohort independently describe similar service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:drum:drum failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2005 PONTIAC G6 shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.

Complaint Description

BRAKES GRIND AND CAR SHAKES AND VIBRATES WHEN APPLYING BRAKES WHEN TRYING TO SLOW DOWN. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I LEASED THE CAR AND I HAVE BROUGHT IT BACK FOR SERVICE ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. THE LAST TIME I BROUGHT IT THE SAID THAT THEY "GROUND DOWN THE DRUMS". NOT SURE WHY A CAR WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THIS DONE WITH LESS THAN 15,000 MILES BUT THE CAR STILL PERFORMS THE SAME AND IT ALMOST FEELS LIKE THE BRAKES ARE GOING TO FAIL. THEY STILL SAY NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THEM. *TR
