NHTSA Complaint about SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS:LEAF SPRING ASSEMBLY:HANGER,BRACKET filed July 17, 2005
NHTSA complaint #544512 (ODI reference 10129040) concerns a 1995 FORD F-150 and was filed on July 17, 2005. The owner reports the failure occurred on June 23, 2005. The vehicle had 50,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Indiana based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as suspension:front:springs:leaf spring assembly:hanger, bracket, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD F-150 cohort independently describe similar suspension:front:springs:leaf spring assembly:hanger, bracket failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description
THE LIFT SPRING REAR BRACKET(DRIVER SIDE) COMPLETLY RUSTED AWAY CAUSING THE BED TO COME DOWN AND IT ALSO COMES VERY CLOSE TO PINCHING THE REAR FUEL FILL TUBE(DUAL TANKS). THIS TRUCK ONLY HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED VERY WELL.I DO VERY LITTLE HAULING OR PULLING WITH THIS TRUCK THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THIS PREMATURE MALFUCTION. I CALLED THE FORD DEALER BUT THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP ME-SO I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL GARAGE TO REPLACE. THEY SAID THEY REPLACE THESE ALL THE TIME AND THAT THE LOCAL FORD DEALER EVEN KEEPS THE BRACKETS IN STOCK.I HAVE PICTURES AND THE OLD PART.
