Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CABLES filed July 8, 2005

NHTSA complaint #543090 (ODI reference 10127870) concerns a 2002 MAZDA TRIBUTE and was filed on July 8, 2005. The owner reports the failure occurred on July 8, 2005. The report was geocoded to New York based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as vehicle speed control:cables, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same MAZDA TRIBUTE cohort independently describe similar vehicle speed control:cables failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

CONSUMER STATES SHE RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER NOTICE IN THE MAIL IN 1-05 REGARDING THE ACCELERATOR CABLE. THERE WAS NO RECALL # AVAILABLE. SHE TOOK IT IN TO A DEALER AND THEY EITHER REPLACED/OR REPAIRED THE CABLE, SHE WAS NOT SURE. SHE HAS NOTICED AN EXTREME CHANGE IN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SINCE THEN. THE GAS PEDAL SEEMS TO BE TOO LOSE; SHE SAYS THERE SEEMS TO BE NO TENSION IN THE PEDAL. SHE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND HE TOLD HER THAT WAS NORMAL; THAT THERE WAS A DIFFERENT CABLE IN THE CAR AND THAT WAS WHAT SHE WAS FEELING. SHE DOES NOT AGREE. SHE HAS NOT YET REPORTED THIS TO THE MANUFACTURER. SHE WANTS THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE CABLE THEY SAY THEY REPLACED. *JB
