NHTSA Complaint about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:AUXILLARY TANK:SELECTOR DEVICES filed March 16, 2005
NHTSA complaint #526223 (ODI reference 10114173) concerns a 1990 FORD F150 and was filed on March 16, 2005. The owner reports the failure occurred on January 1, 1997. The vehicle had 60,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Pennsylvania based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxillary tank:selector devices, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 1, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD F150 cohort independently describe similar fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxillary tank:selector devices failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 1990 FORD F150 shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
I OWN A 1990 FORD F-150 WITH RECALL # 93S68. THIS IS A CROSS DUAL TANK FUEL CONDITION WHERE THE FRONT TANK OVERLOADS WITH UNUSED FUEL . FRONT TANK IS IN-OPERABLE AND ONLY REAR TANK BEING USED. FRONT TANK CONTINUES TO SPILL FUEL WHEN PARKED AND AFTER 6 YRS OF REPEATED ATTEMPTS IN CONTACT WITH FORD I STILL CAN GET NO RELIEF. I HAVE HAD 2 93S68 RECALLS AND STILL THE TANK LEAKS DANGEROUS GASOLINE EVERYWHERE IT IS PARKED. WHAT AMAZES ME IS HOW FORD HAS BURIED THIS RECALL CONSIDERING WHAT A HAZARD LEAKING FUEL PRESENTS. HAVING OWNED THE TRUCK FOR 10 YRS AND SINCE IT IS IN OTHERWISE PERFECT CONDITION , I AM HOPING AN AGENCY SUCH AS YOURS WOULD HELP ME TO FORCE FORD TO HONOR THIS RECALL UNTIL I AM SATISFIED. PLEASE CONTACT ME AT ANY TIME AT THE 2 PH3'S PROVIDED . THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE TRIED TO ENLIST THE ASSIST OF NHTSA . *AK
