2003 HONDA ACCORD — Complaint #493616

Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:DISC:PADS filed August 31, 2004

NHTSA complaint #493616 (ODI reference 10088863) concerns a 2003 HONDA ACCORD and was filed on August 31, 2004. The owner reports the failure occurred on August 30, 2004. The vehicle had 12,823 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as service brakes, air:disc:pads, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same HONDA ACCORD cohort independently describe similar service brakes, air:disc:pads failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD EX NEEDED NEW ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS AT 11,000 MILES. I DO NOT RIDE THE BRAKE AND AM RARELY (MAYBE ONCE EVERY 2-3 MONTHS) IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. I WAS CHARGED $350 BY MY DEALER TO GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED. I STARTED TO WONDER WHY MY CAR HAD THIS PROBLEM. AFTER INTERNET RESEARCH, I AM FINDING OUT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. IN FACT, IT'S QUITE COMMON AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. *AK
