2000 DODGE STRATUS — Complaint #435928

Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:DRUM filed October 19, 2003

NHTSA complaint #435928 (ODI reference 10043190) concerns a 2000 DODGE STRATUS and was filed on October 19, 2003. The owner reports the failure occurred on April 3, 2002. The report was geocoded to Louisiana based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as service brakes, air:drum, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: yes, fire: no, injuries: 1, fatalities: 0. A complaint that flags a crash, fire, or fatality is escalated on NHTSA's internal review queue and factors more heavily into any Preliminary Evaluation decision on this make and model. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same DODGE STRATUS cohort independently describe similar service brakes, air:drum failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2000 DODGE STRATUS shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.

Complaint Description

I PURCHASED A 200 DODGE STRATUS ES IN JAN 2001 FROM A TOYOTA OF NEW ORLEANS DEALER. AFTER PURCHASE, I STARTED HAVING RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. BRAKES,HEATING SYSTEM REPLACED,BRAKE DRUMS. AT THIS MOMENT SOMETHING CALLED SWAY LINK BARS HAVE GONE BAD ON THE CAR. I HAD A ACCIDENT IN APRIL 2002 BUT ACCORDING TO THE DODGE DEALER IN GRETNA LOUISIANA THE ACCIDENT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PROBLEM I'VE HAD OR HAVING WITH THE CAR. I NOTIFIED THE CHRYSLER COMPANY OF MY PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS CAR WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. IT SHOULD BE. I'M HAVING CONTINUOUS PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES AS SWELL. THIS DOES NOT MAKE SENSE BEING THAT THE VEHICLE IS OF A NEW MODEL. *LA
