Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about POWER TRAIN filed February 19, 2026
NHTSA complaint #2178458 (ODI reference 11719058) concerns a 2024 GENESIS GV70 and was filed on February 19, 2026. The owner reports the failure occurred on February 3, 2026. The report was geocoded to Washington based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as power train, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same GENESIS GV70 cohort independently describe similar power train failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2024 GENESIS GV70 shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
I was entering a highway when my vehicle lost the ability to accelerate. Complete loss of acceleration, audible and visual notifications on my dashboard that were difficult to read as I was dealing with a dangerous situation. I was fortunate that there was a pull out immediately ahead and no traffic that allowed me to quickly get to safety. Had I been further up the highway or on a freeway, my life and that of drivers around me would have been in imminent danger as this was sudden and unexpected. After I pulled out, my vehicle dashboard contained a message that read: Stop vehicle and check power supply. My vehicle's app presents two "Attention Needed" notifications: 1) CHASSIS DTC C160C87 and 2) CHASSIS DTC P1A9096. My vehicle is only 2 years old and had all recommended recalls and maintenance checked prior to this event.
