Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION filed February 14, 2026
NHTSA complaint #2176815 (ODI reference 11717979) concerns a 2021 KIA K5 and was filed on February 14, 2026. The owner reports the failure occurred on February 11, 2026. The report was geocoded to Kentucky based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as lane departure: blind spot detection, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same KIA K5 cohort independently describe similar lane departure: blind spot detection failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2021 KIA K5 shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
The steering wheel became stiff all the sudden and became hard to turn. As well as all the warning lights came on when that happened such as Adaptive Cruise Control Automatic Emergency Braking Blind Spot Warning Forward Collision Warning Lane Departure Warning Lane Keeping Assistance Parking Collision Warning Rear Cross Traffic Warning. I was driving in the middle of the road when this happened and this couldâve caused a huge accident due to the fact that I couldnât steer my car properly. No, the problem has not been resolved yet. It is in the dealership at the moment to be inspected. There was no problem prior to the other signs coming on besides low tire pressure. The appeared as I was driving on the road.
