NHTSA Complaint about BACK OVER PREVENTION: REARVIEW SYSTEM BRAKING filed February 13, 2026

NHTSA complaint #2176471 (ODI reference 11717745) concerns a 2024 HONDA PROLOGUE and was filed on February 13, 2026. The owner reports the failure occurred on February 1, 2025. The report was geocoded to Maryland based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as back over prevention: rearview system braking, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same HONDA PROLOGUE cohort independently describe similar back over prevention: rearview system braking failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2024 HONDA PROLOGUE shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.

Complaint Description

On multiple occasions the alert for either the forward or rear collision warning system will sound with nothing either in front of or behind the vehicle. In these cases, the car automatically braked and brought the car to a stop in the middle of my driving. The component is not available for inspection. This puts myself and others at risk by completely overriding my ability to control the vehicle until I am able to put the car back in gear and begin moving again. It completely immobilizes the car for several seconds. It is also a safety hazard because I have been forced to turn off the automatic braking for both the front and rear collision warning systems. This problem has not been confirmed by the dealer, nor have any of the parts been inspected by those listed above. There were no warnings or messages before the problem began.
