NHTSA Complaint about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL filed January 30, 2026

NHTSA complaint #2171784 (ODI reference 11714608) concerns a 2018 RAM 2500 and was filed on January 30, 2026. The owner reports the failure occurred on June 2, 2025. The report was geocoded to Wisconsin based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as vehicle speed control, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same RAM 2500 cohort independently describe similar vehicle speed control failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

Dash warnings for abs / traction control flicker on and off steadily. Every time the warnings come off it kicks off cruise control. I live in often snowy conditions and I worry that steadily changing traction control systems will absolutely be dangerous. Not to mention the frustrating noises of the alerts coming on Avery few seconds. As I was told by my dealer, this recall has been out there since December of 2024. I’ve been dealing with this issue for months and it is getting worse.
