Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about VISIBILITY/WIPER filed January 28, 2026

NHTSA complaint #2170937 (ODI reference 11714035) concerns a 2025 NISSAN ROGUE and was filed on January 28, 2026. The owner reports the failure occurred on January 27, 2026. The report was geocoded to Texas based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as visibility/wiper, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same NISSAN ROGUE cohort independently describe similar visibility/wiper failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

My vehicle had been parked in my driveway for approximately one hour. When I entered the car and closed the door, I immediately heard a shattering sound. The vehicle was not running at the time, and there was no impact or external force involved. The rear window shattered suddenly and without warning. I am thankful this did not occur while I was driving, as it presents a serious safety concern that could have caused an accident. There were no prior signs or indications that this would happen. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
