NHTSA Complaint about TIRES:SIDEWALL filed January 8, 2026

NHTSA complaint #2164469 (ODI reference 11709739) concerns a 2011 BUICK LUCERNE and was filed on January 8, 2026. The owner reports the failure occurred on January 2, 2026. The report was geocoded to Minnesota based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as tires:sidewall, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same BUICK LUCERNE cohort independently describe similar tires:sidewall failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

Passenger rear tire blew out the side wall all around the tire. The dealer that installed the tire has it for warranty. It was an large noise and I was able to pull to the side of the road immediately without loosing control. Yes the problem was reported to the dealer that put the new Falken tires on my car in September of 2025. The tires only had about 2,000 miles. My tire has tire pressure monitors on it, they did not alert me to a low tire pressure. I do have a few pictures of the tire showing the whole side wall blew out all around the tire. I am concerned for the safety of my family and anyone else that has this tire. I still have 4 of these tires on my car and I am worried that if another one blew out, it could end up in a serious crash.
