Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about VISIBILITY:SUN/MOON ROOF ASSEMBLY filed January 7, 2026
NHTSA complaint #2163935 (ODI reference 11709389) concerns a 2019 AUDI E-TRON and was filed on January 7, 2026. The owner reports the failure occurred on January 7, 2024. The vehicle had 5,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as visibility:sun/moon roof assembly, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same AUDI E-TRON cohort independently describe similar visibility:sun/moon roof assembly failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description
The contact owns a 2019 Audi E-Tron. The contact stated that during rainy weather, there was water entering the vehicle through the roof, and water was leaking onto the infotainment system, the shifter, and other electronics. Additionally, the contact stated that there was water accumulating in the footwell. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that water was leaking through the fully closed sunroof. The contact related the failure to TSB Number: AWA-23-09 (Sunroof Limited Warranty Extension) that stated that the dealer would address a condition of leakage and water ingress into the interior of the vehicle from the sunroof while in the fully closed position and would address consequential damages as a direct result of the water ingress. However, the dealer informed the contact that there was another TSB with the same TSB Number that overrode the bulletin information. The contact was informed that only 60 percent of the cost of the sunroof repair would be covered
