NHTSA Complaint about EXTERIOR LIGHTING filed December 23, 2025

NHTSA complaint #2160107 (ODI reference 11706866) concerns a 2025 RAM 1500 and was filed on December 23, 2025. The owner reports the failure occurred on June 2, 2025. The report was geocoded to North Carolina based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as exterior lighting, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same RAM 1500 cohort independently describe similar exterior lighting failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2025 RAM 1500 shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.

Complaint Description

All issues have been reported and duplicated by the dealer. 1. Upon hard acceleration, vehicle dash flashes service 4 wheel drive and all lights surrounding the shifting knob flash. In one instance, it locked into 4 wheel (high) and was difficult to steer. Cleared upon restart. 2. Backup camera went totally to blue screen, no camera. 3. Instrument panel went dark when driving, no speedometer or other information on panel. 4. Front and rear end collision warning lamp indicates off, but never manually disengaged. 5. Other warning lights on periodically for no reason. 6. Since most of these items clear upon restarting the vehicle, it's often difficult to get to the dealer for inspection. They have, however, witnessed most of these incidents and in some cases have reproduced them when leaving the vehicle with them. 7. Frequent warning light illumination unavailable, service required prompt appears
