Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION filed December 23, 2025

NHTSA complaint #2159964 (ODI reference 11706775) concerns a 2025 MAZDA CX-70 and was filed on December 23, 2025. The owner reports the failure occurred on December 22, 2025. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as lane departure: blind spot detection, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same MAZDA CX-70 cohort independently describe similar lane departure: blind spot detection failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

Multiple times when there is a car on my left or right blind spot and I am merging into their lane the warning does not go off and has caused me to nearly collide with the cars without my intervention. The warnings only work if the cars are behind me not adjacently. This is misleading because the , i-ACTIVSENSE says its 360 degrees, but its not alerting or warning to cars to my left or right. I do not trust the safety systems.
