Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about LANE DEPARTURE filed December 22, 2025

NHTSA complaint #2159511 (ODI reference 11706473) concerns a 2024 TOYOTA CAMRY and was filed on December 22, 2025. The owner reports the failure occurred on January 22, 2024. The vehicle had 5,555 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Georgia based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as lane departure, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same TOYOTA CAMRY cohort independently describe similar lane departure failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the braking system erroneously activated, causing the vehicle to decelerate unintendedly. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted, and a field representative was sent to the dealer to examine the vehicle. During the diagnostic test, the vehicle control history report stated that the accelerator pedal and brake pedal had been depressed simultaneously and was caused by driver error. The contact stated that driver error was not the cause of the failure. Additionally, while operating the vehicle, the Lane Departure feature malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to erroneously steer into the opposite lane of oncoming traffic. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 5,555.
