NHTSA Complaint about FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING filed December 5, 2025

NHTSA complaint #2154690 (ODI reference 11703368) concerns a 2023 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE and was filed on December 5, 2025. The owner reports the failure occurred on December 3, 2025. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE cohort independently describe similar forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

Vehicle Purchased 05/27/2025 6/6/2025 - 9 days after purchasing the vehicle i was left stranded in the parking lot due to the battery issues. The vehicle showed a warning stating to "Service Charging System" and the entire system locked out and the vehicle was towed to to the dealer for evaluation and was there for over a week. When I received the car back they stated it was just the battery and not the charging system/hybrid system. 12/03/25 - While driving on the freeway, warning lights started coming up and the seat belt bell started going off even though everyone was buckled. Then my power steering was disabled, the ABS system was disabled and the breaks stiffened, lane assist was disabled, the airbags were disabled, and the SOS calling, and the engine shut off. When trying to change lanes we had to use extreme force to turn the wheel and the emergency lights wouldn't engage when the button was pressed. Due to the brakes being stiff beyond reason it took us passing 3 freeway exit
