2013 FORD FUSION — Complaint #2140870

Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about UNKNOWN OR OTHER filed October 17, 2025

NHTSA complaint #2140870 (ODI reference 11694166) concerns a 2013 FORD FUSION and was filed on October 17, 2025. The owner reports the failure occurred on October 7, 2025. The report was geocoded to Louisiana based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as unknown or other, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: yes, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. A complaint that flags a crash, fire, or fatality is escalated on NHTSA's internal review queue and factors more heavily into any Preliminary Evaluation decision on this make and model. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD FUSION cohort independently describe similar unknown or other failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

My car was parked in my driveway. I realized that I didn't have my key on me. So I quickly ran in the house to get my key. I went outside to find my car rolling down my driveway into my neighbor's brick house. My 11 year old was messing with the gear shift from the back seat and was able to change the gear to neutral with no brake engaged and no key in the ignition. When I went to the dealership, an employee was able to tell me that it was a bad shifter cable bushing. I checked to see if there is a recall and there was for our year, make, and model; unfortunately, our VIN is now registered under the recall.
