NHTSA Complaint about LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LOCK filed July 11, 2025

NHTSA complaint #2109106 (ODI reference 11672842) concerns a 2021 POLESTAR POLESTAR 2 and was filed on July 11, 2025. The owner reports the failure occurred on July 11, 2025. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as latches/locks/linkages:doors:lock, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same POLESTAR POLESTAR 2 cohort independently describe similar latches/locks/linkages:doors:lock failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2021 POLESTAR POLESTAR 2 shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.

Complaint Description

When using the key fob to unlock the car, I have to push the unlock button 30-40 times before the car unlocks. When locking the car after using it, it usually locks the first time pushing the button on the key fob, but definitely locks after 3-4 presses. This is an issue because I am often parked on the side of the road, and when I'm pressing the button many times, I'm often standing at the door waiting for it to unlock while traffic drives past me because I can't get in the car. I will also pull the door handle, because the car has proximity sensors to unlock, but that also doesn't work right when I walk up to the car. So I usually stand at the driver's door pressing the key fob and pulling on the door handle until it unlocks. The only other issue with the car is the backup camera becoming unavailable when first turning on the car. I'm not sure if these are in any way related.
