NHTSA Complaint about STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM filed April 23, 2025

NHTSA complaint #2085558 (ODI reference 11656456) concerns a 2012 FORD FLEX and was filed on April 23, 2025. The owner reports the failure occurred on April 23, 2025. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as steering:electric power assist system, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD FLEX cohort independently describe similar steering:electric power assist system failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

Ford said the recall was fixed 10 years ago, however it went out on me last night. It's been towed to the Folsom Ford dealership in California, they quoted me $3,000 to fix my power steering assistant failure that had a Safety recall and it was a 'safety recall'. I couldn't steer my car. Very scary! please investigate this and make sure that it was fixed right the first time. it should not have gone out. I hardly drive my car. thank you
