Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) filed March 28, 2025

NHTSA complaint #2078114 (ODI reference 11651276) concerns a 2024 BMW X7 and was filed on March 28, 2025. The owner reports the failure occurred on March 28, 2025. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as electronic stability control (esc), one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same BMW X7 cohort independently describe similar electronic stability control (esc) failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2024 BMW X7 shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.

Complaint Description

The contact owns a 2024 BMW X7. The contact stated that after test driving a similar vehicle, the contact decided to purchase a similar vehicle; however, while writing up the contract, the salesperson added the incorrect VIN on the sales contract. The contact had been receiving notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V104000 (Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Service Brake, Hydraulic); however, the VIN listed on the recall notice was for the vehicle test driven, not the actual vehicle that was purchased. The contact had not yet received a recall notification for the vehicle owned. The contact requested to be removed from the recall distribution list for the incorrect VIN, and for the correct VIN to be added. The local dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue but offered no assistance.
