NHTSA Complaint about VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER filed February 25, 2025

NHTSA complaint #2068843 (ODI reference 11644838) concerns a 2021 NISSAN ALTIMA and was filed on February 25, 2025. The owner reports the failure occurred on February 12, 2024. The report was geocoded to Georgia based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as visibility:windshield wiper/washer, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same NISSAN ALTIMA cohort independently describe similar visibility:windshield wiper/washer failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

Windshield Repair Issue I have a cracked windshield that I attempted to have repaired through my insurance company. The repair company I was sent to was unable to remove the windshield, so they referred me to Nissan, as they are the manufacturer of my vehicle. However, when I went to Nissan, I was informed that they could not remove the necessary bolts to replace my windshield without breaking my windshield wiper motor. This situation poses significant safety risks. A cracked windshield compromises the structural integrity of the vehicle, reducing its ability to protect occupants in the event of an accident.
