NHTSA complaint #2052542 (ODI reference 11633635) concerns a 2019 FORD F-250 and was filed on January 2, 2025. The owner reports the failure occurred on June 30, 2024. The vehicle had 177,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Nevada based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as fuel system, diesel:delivery:fuel pump, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD F-250 cohort independently describe similar fuel system, diesel:delivery:fuel pump failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-250. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power temporarily and made an abnormal sound. The contact stated that the vehicle then stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to Outlaws & Outsiders Diesel, where it was diagnosed and determined that the high-pressure fuel pump had failed, and there were metal shavings inside the fuel system. The mechanic determined that the fuel system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where the same assessment was made. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost and was towed to the residence. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE24014 (Fuel System, Diesel, Fuel System, Other). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 177,000.
