NHTSA Complaint about EQUIPMENT:RECREATIONAL VEHICLE/TRAILER filed December 10, 2024

NHTSA complaint #2047080 (ODI reference 11629955) concerns a 2022 FORD F-450 SD and was filed on December 10, 2024. The owner reports the failure occurred on August 20, 2024. The report was geocoded to North Carolina based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as equipment:recreational vehicle/trailer, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. No VIN was supplied by the filer, so this complaint contributes to model-year trend data but cannot be tied to a specific vehicle.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD F-450 SD cohort independently describe similar equipment:recreational vehicle/trailer failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2022 FORD F-450 SD shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.

Complaint Description

Gatormade gooseneck trailers equipped with electric over hydraulic disc brakes will loose trailer connection to ford trucks model years 2022+ and some newer GM trucks upon restart of the vehicle resulting in the loss of trailer brakes. Also randomly while driving the trailer will loose connection with the tow vehicle and loose trailer braking ability. Gatormade is aware of the problem, but refuses to tell customers of the issues and are still selling them with the compatibility issue. They are advising me to try and add resistors to remedy the issue.
