NHTSA Complaint about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM:THROTTLEBODY/MANIFOLD filed October 31, 2024

NHTSA complaint #2036967 (ODI reference 11622946) concerns a 2016 FORD EXPEDITION and was filed on October 31, 2024. The owner reports the failure occurred on October 30, 2024. The vehicle had 85,605 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as fuel system, gasoline:fuel injection system:throttlebody/manifold, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD EXPEDITION cohort independently describe similar fuel system, gasoline:fuel injection system:throttlebody/manifold failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The contact replaced the throttle body; however, while driving, the vehicle made an abnormally loud sound. The contact inspected the vehicle and discovered that the throttle body hose clamp had detached. The contact reconnected the hose clamp, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 85,605.
