NHTSA Complaint about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:ABS WARNING LIGHT filed July 30, 2024
NHTSA complaint #2011855 (ODI reference 11605391) concerns a 2015 HONDA CR-V and was filed on July 30, 2024. The owner reports the failure occurred on June 4, 2024. The vehicle had 89,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Pennsylvania based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as service brakes, hydraulic:antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip:abs warning light, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same HONDA CR-V cohort independently describe similar service brakes, hydraulic:antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip:abs warning light failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description
The contact owns a 2015 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the traction control, steering, and ABS warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the part was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with the same failure as the dealer. The independent mechanic made the contact aware of Technical Service Bulletin: C0044-4-9 (Rear Brakes sticking after bleeding with the Park Brake set); which the contact related to the failure. The dealer confirmed that the vehicle was not under recall, and that the contact had to pay out of pocket for the repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
