NHTSA Complaint about EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:TV/RADIO/SPEAKERS filed May 28, 2024

NHTSA complaint #1994766 (ODI reference 11591012) concerns a 2023 FORD F-150 and was filed on May 28, 2024. The owner reports the failure occurred on May 22, 2024. The report was geocoded to Mississippi based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as equipment:appliance:tv/radio/speakers, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD F-150 cohort independently describe similar equipment:appliance:tv/radio/speakers failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

I was in the process of turning onto a two lane road when all of a sudden I heard an incredibly loud noise, much like speakers blowing out that seemed to be progressively getting louder. I remained calm. I tried to turn down volume on the speakers and it would not stop the loud sound. I put the truck in park and turned off the truck. That did not work so I turned it on and off again and the noise stopped. The volume was not working at all after this happened. I was completely confused because I didn't understand what happened or why. The sound was excruciating and fortunately when this happened I was able to safely put the truck in park and turn it on and off. If I were in traffic or driving that would probably not be possible. I can see this easily causing an accident if someone is in traffic and panics. I immediately called the dealer after this happened. They said they had not heard of this happening before. I presented them with this article I found in the WSJ - "Ford Confronts Str
