NHTSA Complaint about EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:TV/RADIO/SPEAKERS filed March 25, 2024

NHTSA complaint #1978218 (ODI reference 11579403) concerns a 2022 FORD F-150 HYBRID and was filed on March 25, 2024. The owner reports the failure occurred on February 2, 2024. The report was geocoded to Florida based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as equipment:appliance:tv/radio/speakers, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD F-150 HYBRID cohort independently describe similar equipment:appliance:tv/radio/speakers failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

I am having multiple electrical glitches with the vehicle. While I was in bluecruise the self driving mode the vehicle warned me to take control and when I did the vehicle was stuck in a loop on the highway with notifications alarms. I was able to take a video one of the times. I took it to the ford dealer and they said they needed me to bring it back when an engineer was available. While waiting to go back had another serious issue with the head unit/audio system when I started up the vehicle. Ear damaging sounds came on and I lost control of the head unit. Shut the truck off and turned it back on and the ear piercing noises persisted. I made a video of this too. My head unit randomly reboots while driving the vehicle. Went back to ford and they did an update instead of having engineers diagnose the problem. Audio system still doesn’t work right and I think it is damaged from the event.
