NHTSA complaint #1975824 (ODI reference 11577765) concerns a 2017 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 and was filed on March 16, 2024. The owner reports the failure occurred on March 1, 2024. The report was geocoded to Michigan based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as equipment:electrical:radio/tape deck/cd etc., one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 cohort independently describe similar equipment:electrical:radio/tape deck/cd etc. failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description
There was an electrical burning smell in the cabin of the truck and then the radio stopped working. I called the dealership who confirmed that they had issues with previous models and newer models as well but said my 2017 silverado lt was not included in the fix. I took it in and asked them to see if there were any error codes and I was told no error codes everything was clear. There were no warnings no lights nothing just the burning smell. I spoke with another gentleman who has a 2018 silverado lt and said his radio goes on and off and the screen is unresponsive. Yes the vehicle is available upon inspection. My truck could have possibly caught fire due to this especially with the electrical burning smell. This all happened while the truck was off in my driveway
