NHTSA Complaint about ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:OIL/LUBRICATION:PUMP filed February 28, 2024

NHTSA complaint #1971293 (ODI reference 11574597) concerns a 2017 FORD FIESTA and was filed on February 28, 2024. The owner reports the failure occurred on February 11, 2024. The report was geocoded to South Carolina based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as engine and engine cooling:engine:oil/lubrication:pump, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD FIESTA cohort independently describe similar engine and engine cooling:engine:oil/lubrication:pump failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

I was driving down a very busy highway about 60 mph when my oil light started flashing on my dash and my check engine light came on and when I tried to push my brake pedal to stop my car I couldn't push it in. My brakes were very hard, I had to pull my emergency brake to stop my car and coast into a gas station so I didn't hit anyone. I have done a lot of research online and this same issue is already under recall on 2 other Ford Models as well as a class action lawsuit against Ford because of this issue. My model however is not listed under the recall because it has a manual transmission and they said that those models are not affected but that's clearly not true.
