2012 HYUNDAI ACCENT — Complaint #1946485
Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE filed November 29, 2023
NHTSA complaint #1946485 (ODI reference 11557483) concerns a 2012 HYUNDAI ACCENT and was filed on November 29, 2023. The owner reports the failure occurred on November 29, 2023. The report was geocoded to New York based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as service brakes, air:antilock:control unit/module, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same HYUNDAI ACCENT cohort independently describe similar service brakes, air:antilock:control unit/module failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description
I received a recall notice in October for my 2012 Hyundai Accent. According to the recall, my car is safe to drive but should not be parked in my garage or near my home due to fire risk. The letter said a remedy would be available as of 11/21. It is now 11/29 and there's still no remedy available. Because I'm in upstate NY, the temperature has plummeted and my car is having a harder time starting in the morning since I can't park it in our garage. I'm putting in a complaint due to the fact that the manufacturer has failed to remedy this safety recall in a timely manner.
