No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same NISSAN ROGUE cohort independently describe similar steering:linkages:tie rod assembly failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description
The contact owns a 2021 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while his wife was pulling out of the parking lot, the steering wheel suddenly pulled to the right and the front passenger's side tire became misaligned. The contact stated that the vehicle became undrivable. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the tie rod was bent and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, and a wheel alignment was performed; however, the steering wheel did not return to the center position. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the repair was not covered under warranty because the dealer had informed them that the failure occurred due to an impact; however, the contact stated that there was no impact. No further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 16,655.
