NHTSA Complaint about BACK OVER PREVENTION:DISPLAY FUNCTION filed May 12, 2023

NHTSA complaint #1894441 (ODI reference 11521712) concerns a 2018 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 and was filed on May 12, 2023. The owner reports the failure occurred on May 1, 2023. The report was geocoded to Illinois based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as back over prevention:display function, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 cohort independently describe similar back over prevention:display function failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

My back up camera is blue. It works intermittently. There is a recall on the exact same problem for 2019 but not for mine. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10160418-9999.pdf I don't understand that but it is what it is. I am not paying for it to be fixed since it is an issue in the following year. I don;t think I should have to pay for a software issue. I just thought I would report it. Maybe there will eventually be a recall.
