Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about EQUIPMENT:MECHANICAL filed April 27, 2023

NHTSA complaint #1890914 (ODI reference 11519254) concerns a 2023 HONDA RIDGELINE and was filed on April 27, 2023. The owner reports the failure occurred on April 12, 2023. The report was geocoded to Florida based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as equipment:mechanical, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same HONDA RIDGELINE cohort independently describe similar equipment:mechanical failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2023 HONDA RIDGELINE shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.

Complaint Description

I purchased a rear pickup cover. I used it without problems. I took the top off and stored it in my garage. When I put it back on, I noticed nothing wrong. When I went to open the cover to put garbage bags in the rear bed, I found the first part of the tri-top did not open correctly. I took it to 2 dealers when I was told the cover could not be repaired and there were no replacement parts. I have contacted Honds USA and they refuse to do anything about this $1000 part. I want my top replaced. This was a new top, not a used one.
