NHTSA Complaint about LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:FUELING/CHARGING DOOR/HATCH/PORT filed February 1, 2023

NHTSA complaint #1869947 (ODI reference 11504848) concerns a 2017 FORD F-150 and was filed on February 1, 2023. The owner reports the failure occurred on February 1, 2023. The report was geocoded to Iowa based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as latches/locks/linkages:fueling/charging door/hatch/port, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD F-150 cohort independently describe similar latches/locks/linkages:fueling/charging door/hatch/port failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

When the temperature outside drops below freezing, the rear driver's side door has either been stuck closed or will not latch properly. Ford needs to issue a formal recall on this. If the door to open while driving this would not be safe to the passengers in the vehicle. if I were to get into an accident, I would not have easy access to the occupants in the back as the door maybe stuck and will not open.
