NHTSA Complaint about FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS filed September 10, 2022

NHTSA complaint #1839785 (ODI reference 11483808) concerns a 2018 ACURA MDX and was filed on September 10, 2022. The owner reports the failure occurred on September 10, 2022. The report was geocoded to Texas based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as forward collision avoidance: warnings, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same ACURA MDX cohort independently describe similar forward collision avoidance: warnings failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

2018 purchased a little more than a month ago as a certified used Acura. Twice now we have been overridden by the automatic forward collision detecting something in front when NOTHING was there. Once on the freeway went from 70mph to 15 quickly and almost got rear ended. Just now on city street car stopped in the middle of intersection while turning left and overrides driver pressing gas pedal in both cases. Makes us scared to drive suv further and we have turned off that feature to see if it still happens.
