Complaint Description
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 MPH and pulling out of a parking lot, an audible alarm in the vehicle activated. The contact stated that the vehicle then lost power steering functionality. The contact towed the vehicle to a certified mechanic who stated that the failure was related to high friction within the power steering. The bolts that held the module to the rack had severe rust. The contact was informed that the power steering needed to be repaired or replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the repair was not covered under a service bulletin or a recall. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
