NHTSA Complaint about STEERING:LINKAGES:KNUCKLE:SPINDLE:ARM filed July 29, 2022

NHTSA complaint #1829541 (ODI reference 11476597) concerns a 2008 FORD CROWN VICTORIA and was filed on July 29, 2022. The owner reports the failure occurred on July 16, 2022. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as steering:linkages:knuckle:spindle:arm, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD CROWN VICTORIA cohort independently describe similar steering:linkages:knuckle:spindle:arm failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

The right front wheel hub broke at the weld when turning in a parking lot. The part is available for inspection. Had this happened at freeway speed, the right front wheel would have departed the vehicle. The safety hazards are obvious. I attempted to contact customer service and they did not reply. There was no warning sign and the part has not been inspected. I am not a welder. It appears this part had a bad weld from the start. I suspect it was welded by a machine and there may be more just like it from the same production run.
