Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS filed July 12, 2022
NHTSA complaint #1825132 (ODI reference 11473507) concerns a 2015 KIA SOUL and was filed on July 12, 2022. The owner reports the failure occurred on June 13, 2022. The report was geocoded to Maryland based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as fuel system, gasoline:delivery:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same KIA SOUL cohort independently describe similar fuel system, gasoline:delivery:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description
My wife has a 2015 Kia Soul that developed a gasoline leak in the engine compartment. The Kia dealer said some of their other models have been recalled due to gas leaks and fires but this model has not. This model has the same engine and obviously has the same issue as the Kia model that was recalled. We were very lucky that her car did not catch fire or explode and that I was able to see the problem after she drove the car a short way. The fuel line was leaking gas where it connects to the high pressure pump on top of the engine and from the hose just behind the engine.
