NHTSA Complaint about AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION:STATUS INDICATOR LAMP/LIGHT filed May 19, 2022

NHTSA complaint #1813679 (ODI reference 11465360) concerns a 2015 GMC ACADIA and was filed on May 19, 2022. The owner reports the failure occurred on April 30, 2022. The report was geocoded to Alabama based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as air bags:sensor:occupant classification:status indicator lamp/light, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same GMC ACADIA cohort independently describe similar air bags:sensor:occupant classification:status indicator lamp/light failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

While driving my car I have noticed that my steering wheel shakes when I apply the brakes. Also when I turn the wheel the power steering makes a loud noise which is the steering rack box. Steering has gotten worse over time and noise has gotten louder. Praying me and my children do not get in an accident as I have no other vehicle to drive. Also the passenger airbag will randomly turn on and off.
