NHTSA Complaint about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC filed December 28, 2021
NHTSA complaint #1785186 (ODI reference 11445263) concerns a 2021 KIA FORTE and was filed on December 28, 2021. The owner reports the failure occurred on December 28, 2021. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:disc, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same KIA FORTE cohort independently describe similar service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:disc failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2021 KIA FORTE shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
I got my car April 18 2021. It is a 2021 car and i got it off the lot with only 30 miles. I had the car for only 2 months and my breaks were already making a squeaky noise. I took it in to get them replaced I asked why i needed new ones sooo quick and i was told that maybe the manufacturer breaks werenât good. I took my car in again December 28 2021 because the breaks are making a squeaky noise AGAIN and my car is only at 7k miles. Iâve had my car for 8 months and have had my breaks changed twice when I shouldnât of even had to get them changed because my car hasnât even reached the mile li mit for new break pads. This is absurd.
