NHTSA Complaint about STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:PUMP filed December 27, 2021

NHTSA complaint #1784898 (ODI reference 11445045) concerns a 2022 FORD E-350 and was filed on December 27, 2021. The owner reports the failure occurred on November 20, 2021. The report was geocoded to New York based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as steering:hydraulic power assist:pump, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD E-350 cohort independently describe similar steering:hydraulic power assist:pump failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

Without warning my brakes and steering failed on a Freedom Elite RV on a Ford Motor chassis. The vehicle only had 2396 miles on it at the time of occurrence. It turned out to be a pressure hose that broke. Luckily I was in a residential neighborhood with no traffic and driving very slowly when it happened. I shudder to think what would have happened on a hill or in traffic.
