NHTSA Complaint about POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE:SOFTWARE filed August 2, 2021

NHTSA complaint #1761042 (ODI reference 11427536) concerns a 2013 FORD FIESTA and was filed on August 2, 2021. The owner reports the failure occurred on July 24, 2021. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as power train:automatic transmission:control module:software, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD FIESTA cohort independently describe similar power train:automatic transmission:control module:software failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

The car suddenly couldn't move in reverse gear or any other forward gear except 1st gear. It is definitely very risky especially if you were on the highway, car cannot move faster than 10 mph. The check engine light was also on. Dealer said it needs a TCM replacement but the parts can take months to get. It is supposed to be a very well-known issue as ford covers this under the TCM extended warranty. Now I'm left in nowhere, stuck at home without a car and Ford doesn't provide any resolution for me to commute or move around.
