NHTSA Complaint about FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:FUEL FILTER filed August 2, 2021

NHTSA complaint #1760943 (ODI reference 11427453) concerns a 2018 FORD F-350 and was filed on August 2, 2021. The owner reports the failure occurred on August 1, 2021. The report was geocoded to Indiana based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as fuel system, other:fuel filter, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD F-350 cohort independently describe similar fuel system, other:fuel filter failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

I developed a diesel fuel smell coming from under the hood. They traced it down to the engine fuel filter on top of the engine. The filter housing is made of plastic. The filter housing failed and the top came loose/cracked spewing fuel all down the drivers side of the engine. I was afraid it cause a fire and was able to get it in to the dealership. Because it's considered a " wear / replacement item " they charged me for it. My issue is if the housing failed with no distress from an outside source, why isn't Fird addresing this issue? Obviously the integrity of the top fuel filter is in question and should be considered a serious safety concern!
