Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:VACUUM filed July 26, 2021

NHTSA complaint #1759723 (ODI reference 11426554) concerns a 2013 FORD EDGE and was filed on July 26, 2021. The owner reports the failure occurred on July 19, 2021. The report was geocoded to Ohio based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:vacuum, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD EDGE cohort independently describe similar service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:vacuum failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2013 FORD EDGE shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.

Complaint Description

When depressing the brakes, heard a hissing sound and had a spongy break feeling. Could not stop as desired at a low speed and traveled into the busy intersection. Took car to Ford Dealer and they diagnosed it as a Brake Booster Failure. Was notified that Ford was fixing this for some VINs under 150k mileage, which my vehicle is. Was told that this agency was the deciding factor if my VIN was covered under this repair from Ford. Right time, right place, we could have been crushed. The dealership confirmed the issue with the Ford Edge, and the fact that there was a Customer Satisfaction sent to some VIN's for the 2013 Ford Edge. There were no warnings at all of this failure. None. One time was enough to go have it checked out before someone was injured or killed.
