NHTSA Complaint about EXTERIOR LIGHTING:TURN SIGNAL:SWITCH filed July 22, 2021

NHTSA complaint #1758892 (ODI reference 11425932) concerns a 2016 KIA SEDONA and was filed on July 22, 2021. The owner reports the failure occurred on January 1, 2020. The report was geocoded to Texas based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as exterior lighting:turn signal:switch, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same KIA SEDONA cohort independently describe similar exterior lighting:turn signal:switch failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

The problem is the multi function switch. In the AUTO mode, the head lights go off randomly. This is a super dangerous at night. Also, when the left turn signal is activated, sometimes the flasher doesn't work and you have to jiggle it or turn it off and on again and sometimes the right flasher goes on. The dealer service could not confirm the problem and did nothing. These problems happen at random times and have been ongoing for about 18 months.
