NHTSA complaint #1758675 (ODI reference 11425763) concerns a 2011 LINCOLN MKX and was filed on July 21, 2021. The owner reports the failure occurred on July 1, 2020. The vehicle had 63,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Ohio based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as service brakes, hydraulic:power assist, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same LINCOLN MKX cohort independently describe similar service brakes, hydraulic:power assist failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description
The contact owns a 2011 Lincoln MKX. The contact stated that at start-up of the vehicle, the brake pedal would intermittently depress to the floorboard without warning. Additionally, there was an abnormal high-pitched sound coming from the brake booster. The contact had initially taken the vehicle to the dealer where he was informed that no fault had been found with his brakes upon inspection. As the intermittent failure persisted, the contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where he was informed that the vehicle was placed under recall for the brake booster. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where he was informed that the vehicle no longer qualified for the 10 years/100,000-mile recall repair. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and referred him to the NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.
